Taki

Sir: As a fairly regular reader of your magazine I hope you will not take excep- tion if I register a strong protest to the presence of the work of Taki in your pages; this has, let me stress, nothing whatsoever to do with the difficulties I gather this man has recently got himself into with the law. Quite simply, over the period I read the magazine I find nothing whatsoever in his work informative, witty, intelligent or, indeed, worthy of printing. His account this week (11 August) — which I have at hand — is only a further example of unfunny, unintelligent, worthless writing. Why and who could possibly be interested in his evacuations, his affairs, or his dreary obsession with sex? The only worthwhile part of the article is thanks to Wilde. It seems to me, sir, that you could use that space to far greater advantage; and I fail to see — perhaps you can justify your employment of this man and if so I should be interested to learn how — why addition- al reviews, comments on foreign affairs or whatnot. could not take its place. The Taki columns are quite nauseously tasteless, unintellectual and totally devoid of amuse- ment in any form. And the dreary old condescendingly feeble comments on American accents are not even at Scare! level. Do consider removing this nuisance.
