Sir: In the services, the self-inflicted wound is held in

abhorrence because it brings into disrepute the name of the whole unit, as well as that of the individual. Perhaps the same may also be said of political parties? It is sad that Mr Heath, with all his qualities, appears to be unable to resist the temptation of undermining the position of his on party, and especially that of their elected leader, Mrs Thatcher. His friends should not flinch from telling him that, through his own actions and attitudes, he is now in danger of losing for ever the sympathy and support of many of his former admirers.
