SANTA ANNA, the President of Mexico, who was defeated and

taken prisoner by the Texian adventurers, has been released and despatched to Washington, for the purpose of negotiating with the United States Government for a recognition of the inde- pendence of Texas ; which lie pretends that he is empowered to accede to on behalf of Mexico. It is said, however, that General JACKSON doubts his authority, and will have nothing to say to him.
