NEWS OF THE WEEK.

THE crisis in home affairs is imminent, though as we write on Friday there has been no actual decision against a peaceful settlement. It is the lull before the storm, but a very angry-looking lulL All that we can definitely say is that the Cabinet met on Thursday to consider the Amending Bill as amended by the Lords, but came to no conclusion. It was to meet again on Friday, but the action it may agree upon—if agreement is reached—will not be known in time for our comment. By Monday afternoon, however, it should be possible to gauge the situation one way or the other some- what more clearly, for Mr. Asquith has announced that the Amending Bill will be taken in the Commons on that day, and, if necessary, on Tuesday. The only other piece of news worth recording is that a meeting took place between Mr. Lloyd George and one of the Nationalist leaders, the subject of the discussion being, it is understood, Ulster.
