Sir: Sir Denis Brogan (11 July) concludes that the examples of Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain do not 'suggest that we should go very far in recruiting our political per- sonnel from people who have either inherited or acquired considerable fortunes in the business world'. Yet earlier in the same article he accords a high place among Prime Ministers to Sir Robert Peel and Gladstone, who fall precisely into this category.
