Mr Knight's philosophy

Sir: In attempting to justify the unjustifi- able, the Sunday Times's serialisation of Diana: Her True Story, Andrew Knight writes (`The restraint of royalist Rupert', 4 July), 'It tells facts of a kind which have afflicted every family in the Kingdom.' Who are we, mere mortals, to contradict the

chairman of News International? For he must know the intimate details about the Prince and Princess of Wales's marriage. And he knows too, it seems, about the mar- riages of everyone else beside. What a man of rare insight he must be!

Particularly objectionable is his view that 'unhappy marriages must be acknowledged' — for acknowledged, read made public in the Sunday Times. He believes also that 'a true story' takes precedence over the sensi- tivities of a family — children included. What a miserable world is conjured up by Mr Knight's philosophy.
