If the amount of history teaching in our schools is

com- mensurate with the output of school histories by cur presses, then the extent is indeed great. A pleasing feature of the books submitted is their correlation of English histoiy with world movements. From Constantine to Bkmirck, by Mr. A. B. Archer (Cambridge, 4s.), is excellent ; but the preface makes the usual mistake of recommending for middle forms what will better suit the seniors. The middle-form boy of girl will be more at home with Cities and Their Stories, by Misses Eileen and Rhoda Power (A. and C. Black, 3s. 6d.).
