Fawcett, in spite of his disability, was a great skater, and his small daughter, as a child of nine, guided him about

the ice by whistling. The child was later placed above the Senior Wrangler at Cambridge in 1891. As a woman she could not tech- nically be styled a Wrangler, but she happily lived long enough to

see all sex distinctions at Cambridge removed. JANus.
