All press-seats not only had a copy of the Heath speech but the text of one he was to make later that night in Exeter. The handout was subheaded `Please check carefully for any deviation in delivery.' The Plymouth handout was numbered 10,080 which would have been more impressive if the later Exeter speech had not been numbered 10,079.

Mr. Heath gave a three-minute preamble; eight minutes on the handout which he embel- lished with some useless padding and too much `so you see Mr. Chairman . . .' and gave us forty-one bonus minutes—about a third of this a rehash of his previous night's broadcast.
