Taki behaviour

From Mr Robin Moore Ede Sir: Taki enjoyed winding us up with his support for Le Pen (High life, 27 April). I am reminded of the words of (I think) the well-known Rat Packer and philosopher Dean Martin who said, 'There are two things in this world I really detest: 1. Racial prejudice; 2. Greeks.'

From Urs Schoettli Sir: In the course of time one has disagreed with Taki's opinions on many occasions. However, all his extravagant ideas and judgments could be tolerated because he always took the side of those who fight for the just cause of elitism. It is, therefore, a great disappointment that in the case of Le Pen he is kowtowing to vulgarity. Beyond his populism, Le Pen betrays in his behaviour as well as in his vocabulary the classical type of what, in the very words of Taki, one cannot but describe as a low lifer.
