Murder victim

Sir: Mr Edward Whitley's article (`Design and fall', 11 November) about retailing and my Part in it was wildly inaccurate and con- tinued to perpetrate misinformation inven- ted by other journalists. Mr Whitley asked for an interview to which I agreed but he never bothered to come and see me. It does seem unfortunate that the assas- sin never meets the victim whose character he murders on your pages. happily it is symptomatic of the short- cut term satellite style of life, but it `toes amaze me that The Spectator endorses it!

Terence Conran Chairman, Storehouse, $12 The Butler's Wharf Building, tendon SW1 Edward Whitley adds: I did indeed request an interview with Sir Terence and informed his secretary of the deadline for my article. As Sir Terence was away until after this, we were unable to meet.
