The situation in Iraq must be pronounced dangerous. Mr. J.

H. Thomas has declared that the Government would refuse to be intimidated by the Turkish invasion, but there is- some hope from the fact that the matter, with the consent of the Turkish Government, has been referred to the Council of the League of Nations. The British Government lias evidently- changed its mind since last week, when it demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Turkish forces and declared that if this demand were not met the British troops in Iraq would take action.
