As a demonstration of what can be done in the way of small fuel consumption, - -the R.A.C. recently observed a test-of an AC car. The car entered for the trial was a stripped racing chassis weighing only 12 cwt. laden, with a top gear - of 2.47 to 1, and it was driven in the following manner. The car after starting was accelerated to 25 miles an hour ; the clutch -was then disengaged, and the engine having stopped, the car coasted- until the speed fell to 15 miles an -hour. The clutch was then let in and the engine restarted, when the car was again accelerated _to 25 miles an hour. This was repeated throughout the trial. At the turning points of the route the car was reversed by hand. The total distance covered was 116.88 miles and the amount of fuel consumption exactly one gallon. the average speed was 20 miles an
