Universities' poetry

Sir: As a considerable time has elapsed since the publication of the last issue of Universities' Poetry, and it is even longer since the last UP conference was held, many people are wonder- ing what has happened to this project. It will no doubt be remembered that Universities' Poetry had a successful history from the time that it was initiated in the University of Keele until about eighteen months ago, when the first impetus appeared to have slackened.

At a meeting of the managing committee held in 1967 ender the chairmanship of Mr George MacBeth, it was agreed that the project should be returned to the sponsorship of a university. Readers and prospective contributors will, therefore, be pleased to hear that the adminis, trative centre has been transferred to the University of Exeter. where the managing com- mittee will function in future under the chair- manship of Professor W. Moelwyn Merchant.

Arrangements have now been made for the publication of Universities' Poetry 8, and as I have been asked to edit this issue, I am authorised by the managing committee to in- vite contributions from graduates and under- graduates of British universities. These con- tributions should be accompanied by the usual stamped addressed envelope, and details of the sender.
