MONOPOLIES.—. . One instance is the monopoly of the press, which is the conse- quence of the taxes, disgraceful to a free and enlightened country, under which it labours. These burdens, which render the establishment of a respectable journal impossible to any man who is not prepared to risk a fortune in the experiment, are the grand source of the venality and ignorance of which daily, weekly and continual complaint is made. Let Mr. Brougham give every Englishman his three- penny newspaper, and with such a coadjutor he will accomplish all that he desires.
