BLACK (5 men) One of the most critical types of game is that in which a player--usually White-attempts to get the upper hand by an early central pawn advance ; Alekhine's defence gives examples of this, the Four Pawns attack in the King's Indian is another case and-as in this case-the Robatsch defence can lead to such positions. It is difficult to judge such positions on general principles ; exact analysis is required and such variations are therefore more than usually likely to be overthrown by subsequent improvements.
