At home with Hyder

I WOULD have thought that supplying water to South Wales would not be diffi- cult. You just wait for it to rain, as it does. Even so, the management at Hyder has got into trouble trying, the money has dried up, and now Hyder has been knocked down in a peculiar auction, under rules which the Takeover Panel seems to have made up as it went along. One glance at Hyder's London office shows where the money went. This Welsh utility installed itself in a town house of stuccoed splen- dour, part of a Nash terrace overlooking Regent's Park. Indeed, its charms have drawn bidders who may not be known to the Takeover Panel. Two ladies of Arab appearance wandered in the other day and wanted to know if the house was for sale. They were told that it wasn't. Someone should tell them it is.
