The North Carolina Union paper, the Raleigh Standard, which, after

its destruction by the Confederate troops, has been permitted to resume existence, claims eight out of the ten deputies just elected for North Carolina as "in favour of peace." This pro- bably does not mean simple submittal= to the North, most likely may mean something much more dangerous—sultanission on con- ditions guaranteeing the cid slavery rights ; but it can scarcely but mean that the North Carolinians are sick of the war, and -in no spirit even for making the most favourable terms.
