A classic example is Eric Linklater's : " But, at my back, I always heart Time's winged chariot changing gear." Competitors are invited to try their iconoclastic hands, and also (but this is optional) to supplY a name for this kind of fun (no Greek, please), for which latter achieve. ment a small portion of the usual prize-money will be set aside.

Entries must be addressed to the Spectator, 99 Gower Street, London, W.C.1, in envelopes marked " Competition " and must be received not later than December 31st. Results will be published in the Spectator of January 9th.
