Peel appeal

Sir: Although rising ninety-six my memory is still green re turtle mar- malade. We had it served to us as a special treat on the old reforma- tory training ship 'Archer', moored in the Mersey. We lads used to line up abaft and receive our 'whack' (as we called it) in our hats (water- proof, of course). Later we would spread it over our lob scouse' in the mess-deck.

Those were happy days when simple pleasures meant more to a lad ,than the luxuries of today.
