JULIETTE'S WEEKLY FROLIC Relief, delight and incredulity were mine in

a large Kensington Department Store last Saturday, having willed Simian to victory to the unlikely accompaniment of a Sinatra love song on the stereo. So on to Ascot with a healthy £98 in my pockets to flutter on the SOB Steeplechase. Although this stars the runaway Hennessy winner, Border Mask, the effort of his recent win, a 71b penalty and an unattractive price, leads me to look further for a possible winner. Disregarding, for once, an instinctive prejudice against members of my own sex in this game, both Arctic Actress, newly returned to the race- course and expected to recapture her old form, and Glencaraig Lady, a respectable third to Into View over a distance short of her best at the last meeting here, appeal strongly. I recommended £3 each way (a lucky amount?) on the latter to realise the hopes of her Irish supporters, with the lightly-weighted Charles Dickens, proving the possible danger.
