, The Times or Wednesday published a letter from Lord

Rosebery who asked for information about Mr. Lloyd. George's Political Fund. What was its source ? " It surely," says Lord Rosebery, " cannot be the sale of the Royal Honours. If that were so, there would be nothing in the worst times of Charles II or Sir Robert Walpole to equal it." He adds that on such a matter there should be no possibility of doubt. He thinks that an authorita- tive statement should be made. We have always thought so too. It has been unintelligible to us that Liberals, who are traditionally regardful of the fine shades of political honour, have not seen the desirability of explaining the Fund or disavowing it. If all the rumours were explained away many persons outside the Liberal Party would be relieved.
