The agreement seems to cover fairly the interests Of the

wireleis " consumer interests, as we pointed out last week, cannotpossibly be ignored—and the interests of the ordinary Press. At least, if the agreement dOes not wholly cover the ground the Committee will be able to call the attention Of the B.B.C.. to any gaps. We are particularly pleased with the important provision as to advertisements. As we said last week, the B.B.C. can 'advertise its wares at no expense to itself, and could easily create a State-endowed monopolS1 which would threaten the independence of the Press. Thanks to the arrangement about adiertisements that possibility has had its sting safely drawn.
