The prisoners of St Kilts

Sir: As you know, all the St Kitts prisoners (see SPECTATOR, 20 October 1967 and subsequent letters) were acquitted by the Supreme Court of the West Indies on 27 November. Several Caribbean govern- ments have passed resolutions condemning the arbitrary actions of Premier Bradshaw and, on 17 December, the Bar Associations of eleven Common- Wealth Caribbean countries passed a six-point re- solution expressing extreme concern at the disregard of the rule of law demonstrated by the Govern- ment of St Kitts.

With the innocence of the prisoners proven by the highest court, the fund set up for their legal de- fence is still short £1,000. We are having some difficulty raising this final amount. May I appeal to your readers to send us whatever they can afford so that we may, after seven months of grinding work, be relieved of this final responsibility? Ten shillings each from 2,000 readers would pay our final debt to the lawyers who so ably defended these men.
