A SPECTATOR'S NOTEBOOK

IIE holding of a plebiscite on the question of monarchy in Greece can now be taken for granted, but it does not follow that if the monarchists win the day their choice will necessarily fall on the ex-King George. The king whom most Greeks want is, I understand, the Duke of • Kent, who, as husband of Princess Marina, has become Closely associated with the Greek Royal Family himself. There is more in it than enthusiasm for the Duke's personality, for the Greeks have not forgotten the day . when a British Government made over to Greece the Ionian Islands as a spontaneous gift, and it occurs to them ti at it would be pleasantly appropriate for an English Prince to ascend the throne of their country hringing Cyprus with him with the British Government's kind regards.
