LLOYD GEORGE SIR.—Mr. Rees, in his latest letter, refers to

the 'warmongering plans' of those who launched 'the Chanak manoeuvre'; but is careful not to mention the fact that the policy pursued by the Government during the Chanak crisis resulted not in war, but in peace.

If Lord Beaverhrook and the group of 'appeasers' who subsequently came to dominate the Tory Party used Chanak as a weapon to bring about the down- fall of the Lloyd George Coalition, that in no way detracts from the success of the results achieved. Here, in a nutshell, was the issue and the argument which culminated in Munich and the Second World War.
