COURSES AT DEGREE LEVEL

SIR,—An estimate made by the Association of University Teachers shows that 5,000 boys and girls with the necessary qualifications to enter universities will be turned away this year. Yet last year, accord- ing to a survey carried out by this Centre, and published in Where?, there must have been nearly 2,000 vacancies on university level courses at Colleges of Advanced Technology and Technical Colleges. This is a terrifying waste, at a time when we need all the trained people we can get, and it is mainly due to ignorance of the opportunities in the Colleges for degree work.

In an attempt to make this information readily available to parents and young people in the present constantly changing situation; we have compiled a list of degree-level courses outside universities, which is not accessible elsewhere in a complete and up-to- date form. It includes new courses opening for the first time in September. This list, sir, will be sent free to any of your readers, parents, teachers or students, who are interested, and I believe that in publicising our offer you will be rendering a service to the many boys and girls leaving school in the next few weeks, and to the community as a whole.
