All at sea

Sir: Answering my letter last week (12 July), Mr Grundy tried to throw a smokescreen over the plain facts that (a) he had written that he could 'find no mention' of Vietnam in the Observer of 30 June, (b) he had read an article from Robert Stephens on the Vietnam peace talks in Paris on page 2 of the Observer of 30 June.

Mr Grundy's determination not to apologise for a damaging error suggests that he was guilty of something much more worrying than accidental inaccuracy.
