As there is not a tittle of evidence to show that the Tory Cabinet had ever accepted Lord Carnarvon's policy, this remark comes with a very ill grace from the leader of the party which in November warned all Irishmen against the Liberals, as a party that wanted only to deliver Irishmen to "chains, imprisonment, and death," and in January cried them and their leader up to the skies as the true friends of Ireland.
