Set by Joyce Johnson Ancientimythology provides an explanation of the origin and nature of the narcissus and sunflower. Readers are asked to invent a legend which explains the origin and nature of any other flower. Limit 150 words or twelve lines of verse.

Entries must be addressed to the Spectator, 99 Gower Street, London, W.C.1, in envelopes marked "Competition," and must be received not later than July 1st. Results will be printed in the Spectator of July 10th.
