Once a Catholic?

Sir: The views expressed by Mr Waugh con- cerning Archbishop Worlock (22 May) are not those one might expect from a Roman Catholic. Mr Waugh obviously revels in ex- pressing extraordinary opinion but his reac- tionary Catholicism does not give him licence to insult the hierarchy or to deny them the courtesy they deserve as leaders of the Church. The vehemence with which he attacks Archbishop Worlock is suggestive of fringe groups, generally regarded as nut- ters.

If his views were expressed objectively and not in a torrent of abuse one might con- clude that his concern for the Catholic Church was real, and that he was not using the church as a scapegoat for his personal problems.
