Lord Phillimore begged Lord Reading not to withdraw his resolution,

as it was most important that the House should not be backward in the cause of peace. The Archbishop of Canterbury added his appeal to that of Lord Phillimore, and Lord Cushendun then handsomely explained that he had not intended definitely to request Lord Reading to -withdraw the resolution. He had merely thought that Lord Reading might not care to place 6n the records of the House a resolution not correctly worded. After what had been said, however, he was quite willing to 'accept the resolution as it stood. -Accordingly, the resolution was agreed to without a division—a memorable event.
