Kerb-washing

Sir: I am afraid I have to disappoint Nell Dunn (Letters, 12 October). If I found myself in dire economic straits, I certainly would not turn to prostitution. Having recently researched my options, I conclud- ed that the most effective way to supple- ment the fortnightly 40 quid from the DSS would be to don my lycra cycling shorts and clean windscreens at Vauxhall Bridge — a relatively young but surprisingly lucrative branch of the black economy. This could, of course, expose me to the abuse and wrath of surly motorists but would at least protect me from a myriad of nasty diseases — not to mention the unwelcome attentions of senior members of the Establishment.
