POOR LAWS; CONVERSION OF THE EDINBURGH REVIEW.—The last number of

this celebrated periodical contains a recommendation for the establishment of poor-laws in Ireland, in the very teeth of the doctrines of the Malthusian economists. -Their introduction will, how- ever, be a work of difficulty. If they are not on the same principle and scale as the poor-laws of England, they will lae useless ; if they are, they will be ruinous. The plan of the poor-laws in Scotland won't do —they extend to the aged and the sick only : what England requires is to get rid of the young and the healthy of the Irish population.
