The Ring of Straw. By Lady Norah Bentinck. (Hurst and

Blackett. 7s. 6d. net.)—No one- who is not interested in church matters should attempt to read The Ring of Straw, which is entirely occupied with controversies between the Anglican and the Roman Catholic Churches. Lady Norah Bentinck obviously conceives the book as a tract in favour of tolerance, and from that point of view it is interesting ; but the psychology of the different characters is not sufficiently analysed for the reader to be greatly concerned with them perplexities.
