Lord Dungannon is the Conservative candidate for Durham city, in

the room of Captain Fitzroy. Opposition by the Liberal party is threatened, but no candidate is named. The nomination is to take place on Monday next.

Sir George Larpent has withdrawn from the contest for Nottingham. Mr. Walter, it is said, can stand for election to the House of Commons though he cannot sit ; Sir George has been unable to obtain an admis- sion from Mr. Walter that he will not stand, or that Sir George's standing would not be a breach of the compromise under which be vacated his seat in favour of Mr. Walter; and therefore, feeling himself still hampered, he withdraws.

Mr. Collette, an English Liberal, appears as a candidate for Athlme under the auspices of Mr. Ferrall, the unseated Member. Major Beresford, the Conservative opponent of Mr. Ferrell at the last election, is the only other candidate announced. The nomination was to take place yesterday.
