The fog of war lies thick on the Russian front,

and probably will continue to envelop operations there for some time. The frost is breaking, and this means for the time mud so deep that the movement of troops is well-nigh impossible. There seems everytreasor to believe, however, that the Russians are more than holding their own in the North and in the Centre, and that in Galicia the Austrians have been obliged to send large reinforcements to their already shaken armies. It is said, indeed, that there is grave anxiety in Vienna and at Budapest owing to this necessity.
