Sir: I don't want to give the impression that I am a Little Scotlander bridling at any imagined slight by an Englishman. I happen to believe passionately in Scotland continu- ing to be part of Great Britain. However, I feel compelled to point out that when Matthew Parris, in his understandable arti- cle about Ulster (Another voice, 18 July), talks about 'paying for them with our taxes and with the lives of our soldiers', he seems to forget that we pay tax in Scotland too (more than him soon, in all probability!). Scotland also contributes significantly and disproportionately, I believe, to the man- power of the British Army.
