Picked Up at Sea, and other Stories. By J. C.

Hutcheson. (Blackie and Son.)—The first of these stories is a curious mixture of land and water. The scene changes from the sea to a mining camp in the States ; the Sioux appear on the scene ; at last, "gold is found." In tact, we have the usual romance which has been told, mutatis mutandis, a thousand times before, and will be told a thousand times again. Two shorter stories complete the volume; the second, "David and Jonathan," being, we think, mach the better.
