The Bon Vivant's Companion, by Professor Jerry Thomas (Knopf, 7s.

6d.) is edited, with an introduction, by Mr. Asbury, who has collected a number of entertaining illustrations for it. The introduction is a lament for the past glories of wet America, the days of bar-tenders and saloons, and above all the days of " Professor " Jerry Thomas, Prince of Mixers. Here we are shown the bar-tender as an artist, and not merely a seller of drinks, and may observe the fruits of his life's study. *
