The Ranee's Rubies. By Dr. Helen -Bourehier. Treherne and Co.

es.)—Of a very different stamp from the above book is Dr. Helen Bourchier's account of the losing of the Ranee's rubies. The interest of the story lies in the fact that a lady who is qualified to write M.D. after her name has presumably pene- trated behind the purdah, and writes about Bailees as one having authority Unfortunately, Dr. Bourchier has hardly made the most of her opportunities, and though this is quite a nice little story and the adventures of the kidnapped " mew-sahib " should be thrilling, yet there is no particular local colour to differentiate it 'from the dozens of other books which nowadays lay a part of their scene in Eastern palaces.
