The penetralia of the Palace, for the first time these

thirty years, will be open to the Whigs. The Queen has selected the Ladies of her " Household " from among the wives of the Whig tiobles. This was to be expected ; and nobody can say that her • Majesty has not chosen ladies of unblemished character as well as high rank.

The Household appointments are symptomatic of a certain amount or Whig strength at Court; but as long as Lord HILL remains at the Horse Guards, the promotion of a few Ladies of the Bedchamber will not be of much service to Ministers. The dismissal of Lord HILL is the grand point to which all are look- ing, who desire to know the actual extent of Whig influence over the Queen, or rather, of Whig spirit and capacity to use it rightly.
