The Musical Union and the Quartet Association have had concerts

this week. In regard to the first, it is worthy of note that Mr. Ella has brought Vieuxtemps to England for the express and sole purpose of per- forming at this concert and the next. As to the second, its programme included a quartet by a young native composer of rising name, Mr. Al- fred Mellon, which gained the unanimous suffrages of the many critical listeners present. It is a rule of the Quartet Association that they shall produce a new work at every meeting; a rule which has not always worked so well as on this occasion.
