[To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR] Sta,-r-May I be permitted to reply, to your correspondent's criticism of my letter and say that for. Christianity to appeal to the. Secular Power is sometimes a mistake, but, in. this country Where ChUrch and State are united the State shares with the ChM* the responsibility of guardini the aristian Religion? So it is surely the natural course for Christians to pursue to appeal to the State as well as to the Church when danger threatens. As to Christianity `` not being allied to a blind support of the status quo nor to .the political theory of the Monarchy " that may be the case elsewhere, but in Great Britain Christianity has allied itself with the State and the Monarchy. Are then its 'vows of loyalty to God and man not to be kept
