FIRE Arrn Loss OF LIFE.—TiliS morning, a. few minutes after

four o'clock, the in- habitants of Arundel Street, Pauton Square, Ilayrnarket, were alarmed by hearing the cry of fire, and the springing of the rattles of the Police. within a few minutes after the alarm, flames were seen to burst forth from Wood's Hotel. The 1 ouse having a wooden front, was, in a short time, enveloped in flames. We regret to state that two gentlemen have lost their lives—Mr. Nagle, a Naval officer, of Deem shire, and Mr. Cape, a native of Glasgow. It appears that the hotel was full of lodgers ; and that the fire broke out in the bedroom or a Dutch nobleman, named blow. The Baron, who is a great smoker, was in the habit or indulging himself with a cigar in bed, at the same Shoe burning a light all night ; the latter of which, it is supposed, cos& the cur- tains, as they were first discovered to be on fire. On the alarm being given, a large body of the Police came to the spot ; and amongst them was Breit', who was on duty in the Haymarket. Being a powerful man, he rushed ikto the house and entered the chamber of the Baron, whom he found ash ep ; he im- mediately took him out of Led, and carried him down stairs on h a back. The only injury which the Baron received is having his hand burnt and his hair partly singed. Drain then entered the house four times, and upon each °mask n brought out *human being in his arms: to him alone is attributed the saving of Lve lives. 'rho Ilaron lost all his property. which was very considerable, as well as st me important papers. The nephew of General Olivera, with his wife and family, who h; d only arrived the day before, escaped with great difficulty ; the whole of their pn perty was de- stroyed. One of the servant-girls had a narrow escape. Mr. Wood, went t p to her room, and told her to getup, as the house was on fire ; which she did ; but not perceiving any signs, she returned again to bed : a few moments, however, informed het of her danger. and she then effected her escape with three of the children. The wife and family of Mr. Nagle are hourly expected in town, the unfortunate gentleman laving written down to them for that pm pose.—Standard.
