Muriel; or, Social Fetters. A novel. By Mrs. Edwin James.

(Skeet.) —This is an extremely foolish book, of the truest young-lady type, with the addition of, just so much knowledge of the world as takes away the charm of innocence from such girlish romance. A heroine who elopes with her musicmaster, and after scarcely knowing how to sing one year comes out as prima donna and creates a furors; a mu.sicmaster who calls himself a Count, and after marrying his pupil turns out to have a former wife ; a handsome young Baronet who soon becomes a most distinguished Baron, and a lovely Lady Mildred who dies of con- sumption, are the new characters created by Mrs. Edwin James as the wearers or forgers of social fetters. We leave her to their company.
