I believe in the true "Social Pact," And I think we should follow its aim; To its principles each should react, But in my case it's not quite the same; For I have such a curious face That it makes me a quite special case.

Blackened pearls of the earth I extract, Which are certainly lovely to see, So that much as I value the Pact, It could hardly apply quite to me; For I have such a coal-dusted face That it makes me a quite special case.

Treasured jewels of the throne I can't pawn To assist me to make payments down; For this post I was specially born So the Pact can't apply to the Crown; For I have such a royalty face That it makes me a quite special case.

I would normally drive on guide-lines, And for others the practice is sound; But experience shewed me that mine's Such a job as by rules can't be bound; For I have such a sleeper-bound face That it makes me a quite special case.

As I exercise power every day I'm aware that it must be used right. Let the Pact show the others the way, But for my part, I've got a guide-light; For I have such a luminous face That it makes me a quite special case.

We believe in the true "Social Pact," And we think you should follow its aim;

To its principles you should react,

But in our case it's not quite the same; When we have such peculiar faces, We're all of us quite special cases.
