WHY KHRUSHCHEV?

SIR,—The name is, of course, Hroostschoff, phonetically speaking. It is spelt in the Cyrillic alphabet with an 'X' as in Xarkhov, Xemnitz or Xristofer. So everybody's right and everybody's wrong. The subs choose a spelling they think will suit their particular readers . . . the simpler the better. Once the papers had started calling him Mr. K, they had to keep on, naturally. He could hardly become suddenly Mr. X.
