NEWS OF THE WEEK.

ON Saturday last the Prime Minister made his anxiously expected announcement on the Irish crisis. On Tuesday Sir Edward Grey spoke to his constituents in Northumberland on the same subject, and on Wednesday Mr. Bonar Law, followed by Sir Edward Carson, addressed a great Unionist gathering at Wallsend. We have dealt fully with the whole situation in two leading articles, and it is therefore not necessary, nor would it even be expedient, to say more in detail here. The situation is more likely to be aggravated than improved by dwelling upon the exact words of this or that statesman, and attempting to analyse his meaning too minutely. We shall be content, then, with a brief summary of the speeches intended to give our opinion of their general effect rather than a regular précis.
