On Wednesday, October 22nd, General Feng YiAsiang, who is known

as the " Christian General," unexpectedly occupied Peking. He announced that he and his troops whom he had withdrawn from the battlefield, did not believe in war, and meant to bring it to an end. He summoned an " end the war " conference. It would be intensely interesting if a Christian pacific movement should really develop, though unkind persons whisper that a large part of the reason why Feng left the field was that he could not agree with Marshal Wu Pei-fu. In the meantime, Wu, who is left to fight his battles without the help of Feng, denounces Feng as a traitor. It is doubtful whether, in the circumstances, Wu will be able either to hold his ground against Chang, the Manchurian War Lord, or to deal with the Christian coup d'etat at Peking.
